How to Publish Your Work? A Case Study

Emily Auchard writes for a living. She joined the Write Your Impact writing group to focus on her creative non-fiction work. A month into the group, she got published in the Marin Independent Journal. How did Emily do it?

1) Attended a one-time writing workshop at The Hivery (online and in-person attendance available)
2) Liked the person leading the workshop and joined her mentored writing group
3) Wrote a compelling piece, received immediate positive feedback from coach and peers
4) Received recommendations as to where to publish
5) Submitted a well-written, timely holiday piece to a recommended editor
6) Got published! Yeah! Celebrate and repeat!

My take-away from Emily's experience is
1) It helps your writing to make it a priority. What can you do to show your writing that you value it?
2) It helps to get feedback, encouragement and publishing suggestions including introductions to editors from colleagues, peers, and writing groups.
3) It helps to write a well-written, timely piece. How do you know if it's well-written? You join a writing group so you have friends and a professional mentor to read your work and give you honest feedback
